Rebuilding "The Green Machine"

| | Comments (2)

Music is finally going to be cut in its entirity. In 1990 our school's jazz band was the 1st in the nation, and given the nickname: "The Green Machine." They performed for then-president George W. Bush. And here we are 14 years later... with nothing. It's a travesty really. Whatever the costs, Mrs. Parker must be FIRED! And she must be replaced with someone halfway competant who can rebuild things at least a little. Gah!

firing Parker may not be the best plan, but i think it's the one Carla Randall is using.
yes, she is a horrible teacher and is driving people away, and i should know from experience, but she's not the only problem.
people have concentrated on her for so long that they've forgotten about funding.
theres only enough funding this year for two periods of music, and it's just a coincidence that the absolute worst teacher in the world is the only teacher willing to work for that amount of money.
firing her would be extremely satisfying, but by getting rid of her, we are getting rid of the entire program. if you, or anyone can find a teacher willing to work only two periods in the beginning (if we do get funding for next year at all) then we need to start with that. we can't expect everything to magically be better the first year she's gone. It's taken 14 years for the music program to go to hell, and it might take us another 14 to get us out. just be patient and yell at Ms. Randall as often as possible.
Come to the meeting Thursday night! 7pm in the cafeteria!

Music isn't dead. (Or so I've heard)

Just instrumental music.

And no matter what you think of choral music, it's still music, and just as valuable to a school.
