"But if girls would just wise up and let themselves act like adolescent boys for the three hours they’re taking the test, the gender gap might disappear."

--A critique of the SAT examining how to eliminate the gender gap on the test. Males score an average of 40 points better than females on it, but get slightly worse grades on average in high school math and english classes.

My opinion: The SAT emphasizes speed rather than knowledge. School emphasizes conformance and recitation rather than knowledge.

My opinion is that the real world emphasizes success rather than knowledge.

Adam Anderson said:

Agreed, although knowledge plays a small role in success sometimes.

But what is knowledge? We must define that before we can come to any conclusions.

Adam Anderson said:

But can we just define? By definition, definitions are arbitrary. Think about that. So true and yet so contradictory. The only thing that definitions are good for is mind control.

Me said:

Defnitions are certainly not arbitrary. Note that I am not referring to dictionary definitions. Definitions are also good for wasting time.

You're all wrong. The SAT focuses on reasoning, not direct knowledge. At least that's what they claim.
