Complete G5 Computer for $1300

| | Comments (1)

The new iMac, complete with a G5 processor (1.6 GHz or 1.8 GHz) was released recently. It's pretty cool, and although the design is more convenient, it isn't as neat as the former model. Essentially, the computer was smushed onto the back of an LCD flatscreen, and put on an aluminum stand. The bottom border to the monitor is a bit thick, but the size is pretty impressive. I wonder if there are problems with heat. All and all, it's ain't bad.

I used a G5 iMac, it's a lot more impressive and elegant than the pictures. Heat problems are few, it's essentially a G4 cubelike vertical exit theory helped along by fans. Also it's bloody fast, this is my recommendation for any Apple consumer if they're thinking of upgrading. The speakers are wicked good as well, the strange thing is they are on the bottom of the screen, they function by bouncing the sound off the surface the iMac is sitting on, sounds a bit sketchy, but it works brilliantly. The screen on the 17" is a little small for my taste, I would go for the 20" for sure... Also if it's a shame it only comes with 64Mb RAM, the 20" model should come with 128Mb, 64Mb is a bit low end these days. RAM is also a must, as we all know OS X is a memory hog... Anyways, just my two cents. :-)
