Hope for the Rest of Us
Despite the gloomy conviction to the contrary that this university has inspired in me, there may yet be hope for the rest of us in our intellectual endeavors.

Hmmmm. It is interesting to note that David Brooks, a U of C alumnus, survived the ordeal and has gone on to thrive. When I was there I felt a major emphasis of the College was to give you a realistic sense of your intellectual place on the full continuum, not the small piece most of us were exposed to before entering.
